Tourist rally : the Chaudfontaine hills
In radiant sunshine at the start of this autumn, the Hill Rally took place on Sunday 25th September in the Chaudfontaine region in a cordial atmosphere.
On the circuit of about 35km, the Alderman for tourism at Chadfontaine helped in the discovery of the villages on either side of the Vesdre with their architecturally noteworthy buildings and heritage and also their legends and traditions.
Leaving from the imposing Basilica of Our Lady of Chèvremont and the marvellous little chapel of Our Lady, patron of sportsmen, the route passes by the modern church of Notre-Dame-à Vaux- sous- Chèvremont then climbs the hill by a delightful winding road to come out onto the superb square at Forêt with its Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Catherine. After passing by the church of Saint- Laurent de Prayon the route leads us to the abbey of Notre- Dame de Brialmont passes by the church of Saint John the Baptist and finishes at the church of Saint- François Xavier de Chaudfontaine.
This cultural tour entranced the ralliers who were impatient to complete a faultless questionnaire. Equally it was a discovery and an enchantment with the forms and colours of the countryside as well as the churches of this beautiful area.
At the end of the day The company of the Knights of the Fricassée, the most ancient folkloric and gastronomic fraternity in the Province of Liege, served us the famous local fricassee which satisfied the stomachs of our starving “pilgrims”. Then the alderman for tourism and thermals of Chaudfontaine presented prizes to the smartest competitors.
