Open Churches Days :
"Sounds and silences"

This year this 9th edition was again a great success. In nearly 600 buildings in Belgium and Luxemburg dynamic and inventive teams organised festive events with the theme “Sounds and silences”: organ concerts with intervals of silence or poetry, concerts of bell chimes, choirs and Gregorian chants, explanation of the sound of bells, exhibition on the theme of silence, silent walks, guided tours,..

At Waha, presentation of John Cage’s composition”4’33”; at Herstappe, a theatrical presentation of sounds heard in a church; at Bois-du-Luc, tales for children whispered from a confessional; at Coq and at Chaussée-Notre-Dame, a silent film projection; at Wihéries, a show about the sound of stones; at Houdeng-Goegnies, meditation and relaxation exercises; at Boekhoute, a proposal of therapy by sound; at Deurle,a silent visit to a graveyard; at Bassevelde, a film on the silent life of the Carthusians;..

We would like to thank all the organisers and volunteers who made these days a success..
